clairvoyance (n.) "paranormal gift of seeing things out of sight," 1847, from Fr. clairvoyance (O.Fr. clerveans, 13c.) "insight, clear-sightedness," from clairvoyant (see CLAIRVOYANT (Cf. clairvoyant)). A secondary sense in French is the main sense in English.
