-ad suffix denoting collective numerals (Cf. Olympiad), plant families, and names of poems, from Gk. -as (gen. -ados), a suffix forming fem. nouns; also used in fem. patronymics (Dryad, Naiad, also, in plural, Pleiades, Hyades).
