Lucian

Lucian masc. proper name, from L. Lucianus (Cf. Fr. Lucien), a derivative of Roman Lucius, from lux (gen. lucis) "light" (see LIGHT (Cf. light) (n.)). The Hellenistic Greek writer (his name Latinized from Gk. Loukianos) was noted as the type of a scoffing wit.
