- aggravated (adj.) 1540s, "increased, magnified," pp. adjective from AGGRAVATE (Cf. aggravate). Meaning "irritated" is from 1610s; that of "made worse" is from 1630s. The earlier adjective was simply aggravate (late 15c.).
