immobile

immobile
immobile (adj.) mid-14c., from O.Fr. immoble "immovable, fixed, motionless," from L. immobilis "immovable" (also, figuratively, "hard-hearted"), from assimilated form of in- "not, opposite of" (see IN- (Cf. in-) (1)) + mobilis (see MOBILE (Cf. mobile)). Hence, immobilism "policy of extreme conservatism" (1949, from Fr. immobilisme).
